Cancer services: treatment

Treatment and careWhere possible we will admit you to 8 East, a ward that specialises in the care and treatment of those with cancer, particularly those receiving chemotherapy, radiotherapy or for the relief of the symptoms of cancer.

For some procedures (such as surgery) you will be admitted to other specialist wards.

There are many different treatments for cancer. The main ones include:

  • Surgery - this varies according to the type of cancer you have, where it is and your general health. Further information can be found via the Macmillan Cancer Support website.
  • Radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy
For details about specific drugs and chemotherapy treatment please contact us for a fact sheet about that drug, or drug combination.

Cancer information and support The treatment you may have will depend on the type of cancer you have and the characteristics this has in your particular case. The team caring for you will need to obtain as much information about your cancer as they can before advising on a treatment plan. Please do contact your team if you are worried or anxious about anything. Please remember that everyone is treated as an individual.

Looking up the different treatments on our website or reading the CancerBACUP booklets can help you gain more information and plan any questions you may wish to ask the team caring for you.
