Royal Free tops league

The Royal Free has the best mortality rates in the country according to the latest Dr Foster hospital guide.

The Royal Free’s rate is 27 per cent below average. The nearest to us were Bart’s and Hammersmith (both 23 below); St Mary’s, Paddington (22); and University College London Hospitals (21).

Andrew Way, chief executive, said: “I am absolutely delighted with this result, which is thanks to the hard work of our staff. It will reassure and encourage our patients that we are providing a quality service and a time of considerable change.

“The service restructuring, building work and major IT changes going on at the moment, although disruptive, are all focused on the continued improvement of our services to patients and will lead, I am sure, to further accolades in the future.”

The development of the trust’s website includes plans to include our performance against key targets so that patients can monitor our performance themselves.
