Spring means awards time and NHS London is looking for nominees in 14 award categories, including the new Unsung Hero award which honours the achievement of volunteers and non-clinical staff in hospitals.

Other categories include awards for work in patient safety, innovative acute care, dignity in care and achievements in reducing carbon emissions, as well as a new chairman’s award for outstanding achievement.

To beat the 6 March midline deadline for nominations, go to www.healthandsocialcareawards.org.uk. Winners will automatically be considered for the national awards to be held in July.  Staff, patients, friends and relatives can all nominate candidates.

Meanwhile, the Nursing Standard is looking for a nurse of the year, as well as 12 category winners for its awards ceremony to be held at London’s Savoy hotel in October.

The organisation is looking for: “outstanding nurses who have made a real difference to care” and prize money ranging from £500 to £3000 is on offer.

Nurses, midwives, health visitors, student nurses and healthcare assistants are invited to nominate themselves or colleagues by visiting www.nurseawards.co.uk before 10 April.
