The trust board has decided it will seek authorisation as a foundation trust (FT) from 1 December this year, following a meeting with Monitor, the regulator of FTs. A key reason for the delay is that much of our integrated business plan (IBP) – the basis for our plans for the next five years – was written before the key report on the future of London health services, Healthcare for London, was published. This report provides us with opportunities not explored in the plan and we would like the time to do that. Andrew Way, chief executive, said: “Although we are understandably very focused on the date of authorisation, it is very important that what we have in place at that point is sustainable and optimally poised to make the most of all the opportunities that our more independent status will bring. “And we are not allowing this delay to hold back our plans to improve life for patients, moving forward fast with our programme to improve the environment, modernise our processes and even re-launch our websites.”
