Prof Stephen Powis

Medical director

Stephen Powis has been Professor of renal medicine and director of the centre for nephrology at University College London (UCL) based at the Royal Free Hospital site since 1997. His main clinical and research interest is transplantation.

 

As medical director he is responsible for general medical services and organ failure/transplantation.  He also fosters academic links between the trust and the UCL medical school.  He liaises with PCTs and GPs in the Haringey and Enfield areas and is responsible for research governance.

 

Professor Powis studied pre-clinical medicine at Glasgow and completed his clinical training at St. John's College, Oxford.  He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Renal Medicine at Guy's Hospital in 1995, before moving to the Royal Free.

 

Professor Powis is currently treasurer and a trustee of the British Transplantation Society;secretary of the Joint Committee on Higher Medical Training (JCHMT) Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) for Renal Medicine; a member of the UK Transplant Kidney Pancreas Advisory Group; and a non-executive director of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust.
