There are a number of one-stop clinics for the diagnosis and management of patients with low-risk transient ischaemic attacks, including same day CT scan, duplex, ECG, blood tests. Referrals should be faxed to the hospital using the GP TIA referral form. There is initial guidance on management of low risk TIAs in the bottom left box on the referral form.
High risk TIA patients (ABCD2 score = 4) should come to our A&E with the completed form and we will be able to see and investigate them on the same day usually within our stroke unit. GPs should also bleep the TIA doctor (bleep 2209) for additional advice and to ensure we know the patient is on their way.
For patients who present at our A&E, there is an A&E version of the TIA referral form.
The TIA clinics are run by consultant neurologists Dr. Charlie Davie and Dr. John Bowler.
The clinics take place alternate Monday afternoons, Wednesday afternoons and Thursday afternoons.
